With almost 23,700 runners ready to run the streets of Bengaluru on 15th May 2016, Procam International and the Government Authorities today announced their preparedness to host the ninth edition of the TCS World 10K. Announcing the new route along with medical arrangements & logistical measures for the run were Race Director Hugh Jones, Medical Director Dr. Vivek Jawali and Representatives from the State Government Authorities.

With sunrise on Sunday, the 15th of May, at 5:54 am and an expected minimum temperature of 22 Degree Celsius, the Open 10K will be the first of six runs to be flagged off at 6:00 AM, with a staggered start for different sections, followed by the World 10K for the elite Male Athletes that will commence at 7:25 AM. The World 10K for the Elite Women athletes is scheduled to start at 8:10 AM just after the 4.2 KM Senior Citizens Run, which is slotted for a 7:40 AM start. And finally over 11,000 runners will take to the streets at 9:10 am for the much-awaited Majja Run.

Speaking about the new route, Race Director Hugh Jones said“This year we have made the route a little simpler, lesser turns and more variations in terms of terrain. Previously it was mostly upward route but now it is more gradient. For instance the route is upward in Kasturba Road, goes downward at MG Road, and then again is ascending around Kamraj Road and so on. The final Cubbon Park stretch is the fastest one since it’s just a downward descent. Runners will definitely benefit from the fact that it is a more gradient path and will add to their run in a positive manner,”

Medical Facilities at the TCS World 10K 2016

With a new route and two different finish lines, medical partners Fortis Hospitals have equipped two base camps with 40 beds at the finish and three medical stations along the route. At both the finish lines there will be medical personnel present equipped with stretchers and wheel chairs to attend to immediate emergency requirements in addition to five Ambulances. Five Medics on Bikes would also be moving along the race route to ensure help is made available at all times. Apart from them 175 Doctors will be in duty on Race Day spread across the Medical stations and base camps. There will be a total of 20 spotters around the last 2 KMs of the race to make sure no crucial detail is missed out on.
